GCSE Music will run at Tapton School
Tapton School Academy Trust has secured funding for the first year of the course, starting in September 2019.
The Trust has raised nearly £6,000 through a fundraising campaign and school activities.
The campaign launched in March, following a groundswell of support from the local community for the school to continue to offer the subject at GCSE.
Kat Rhodes, Headteacher at Tapton School, said: "We want to thank all the families and individuals that donated to the campaign.
"We would also like to thank all the students who have been really proactive in additional fundraising activities, and Tapton School alumni for their support.
"We are delighted that they now have the opportunity to study their chosen subject."
Further fundraising activity will continue between now and 2020, in order to raise the remaining £6,000 for the second year of the course. Activities and events will include:
- Ice Pop Sales
- Bake Sales
- Senior Leavers Concert (50% of all takings will fund the music course)
- Christmas Performance at Sheffield Waitrose
- Christmas Concert (50% of all takings will fund the music course).
The school are also planning a charity concert, and are keen to involve alumni who supported the fundraising campaign. Any Tapton alumni that are interested in being involved in the charity concert, or the promotion of music as a valuable subject to Year 9 students, should contact the school at firstname.lastname@example.org.
