It is the expectation of the government that asymptomatic Covid-19 testing, using lateral flow testing kits, remains in place. The government is strongly recommending that those who are eligible for the testing join in with the programme to break the transmission links by identifying those who may be unknowingly carrying the virus:
- Students in secondary schools
- Staff in primary and secondary schools
Pupils in primary schools will not be tested. Public Health England have advised that there are limited benefits, and primary age children may find the testing process unpleasant and be unable to self-swab.
Following initial in school testing for our secondary students, we have now moved to home testing for all staff and secondary students. You should now:
- Test twice a week at home from now on (all those who are able to do so)
- Report results online as positive, negative or void. This information is critical in helping us to understand the prevalence of the virus across the country
- Remember to also report results as positive, negative or void with your school through the link schools have provided.
Families and households can also access home test kits for adults. Please note that these kits are not available from school and should be ordered using the link.
Testing remains voluntary and individuals will be allowed to attend school if they decide not to take part in testing. As a Trust we absolutely support the testing programme and recognise that it will facilitate a safe return to school.
Privacy and Personal Data
Our approach to testing and the privacy statement regarding personal data collected through the process are available below. Testing will be voluntary and free of charge.
Schools have contacted staff, students and parents/guardians with the relevant information and consent forms. If you have any queries please do contact your school headteacher or business manager.
How you can help
Having a negative lateral flow test result does not mean that an individual is not carrying the Covid 19 virus. Everyone must still ensure they are following all national and school guidance. The includes social distancing, regular handwashing and mask wearing (where required).
The lateral flow testing programme in schools is designed to identify people who may be carrying the virus without showing symptoms. The rules are different depending on whether it is a home test or an in school lateral flow test.
If your child has a positive LFD test they should book a lab based PCR Test through the NHS, and isolate immediately.
If you / your child has symptoms of Covid-19 you should continue to book a lab based PCR Test through the NHS, and isolate immediately.
More information about the different Covid-19 tests, and the school testing programme, is available below.
