Tapton School Academy Trust

Current School Arrangements - Updated 21st May 2020

Since the 23rd March 2020, schools have been open to vulnerable children and children of key workers only.

The Government have now announced that, if possible, schools will be encouraged to open for more children from 1st June 2020. The key groups will be:

  • Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6

To be back in school in smaller sizes from 1st June at the earliest, if the Government’s 5 key tests justify changes at that time.
  • Year 10 and Year 12

Some face to face contact, in support of continued home learning.

It is also the Governments ambition for all primary school children to return to school before the summer for a month, if feasible. This will be kept under review. There are no current Government plans to reopen secondary schools further before the summer.

In addition, the Government is now encouraging all eligible children (vulnerable children and children of critical workers) to attend – it is no longer necessary for parents to keep them at home if they can. In particular vulnerable children of all year groups continue to be expected and encouraged to attend where it is appropriate for them to do so.

We believe that the best place for our children is to be in school and learning, however fundamental to our Trust values is that all our community remain safe.

We have been in discussion with the Department for Education, Sheffield City Council, Trustees and Trade Unions, in order to confirm our response to the Government plans, and can now confirm our approach to a phased re-opening of our schools to the identified year groups.

The letter below contains the Trust strategic principles around phased re-opening. Each of our schools will be working within these principles, and providing further specific guidance to their communities.

We also attach a letter from Sheffield City Council, confirming the city's approach.
